And suddenly, out of nowhere came a glimpse of our genius …

Just a stone’s throw from the Jára Cimrman Museum, Lighthouse and Cinema, a brand-new look-to-point has suddenly popped up above Albrechtice. For anyone unfamiliar with Jára Cimrman: he is the fictional Czech universal genius – inventor, playwright, explorer and master of virtually every conceivable discipline – whose life and achievements have been studied in the Czech Republic for decades with affectionate mock-academic seriousness.
And suddenly, out of nowhere came a glimpse of our genius …

The new look-to-point would surely have met with the Master’s approval. It stands minus 20 centimetres tall, is reached by precisely minus one step, and yet its modest construction ingeniously offers a view of Prague – or, to be more precise, right up to its threshold.

Admittedly, the Tanvaldský Špičák mountain has rather inconveniently positioned itself between Prague and our look-to-point. Albrechtice v Jizerských horách, on the other hand, with its Church of St Francis of Paola, lies spread out below as if in the palm of your hand. And after all, you can see no less of Prague from the look-to-point on Světlý vrch than from the considerably more ambitious nearby Světlý vrch observation tower, with its 20 metres of height and 105 steps. So really, what more could one ask?
